Gülsen Bal (Ed.)
Volume 22, Issue 1, January 2008
This special issue is a key to unraveling an intricate fabric of discourse confirmed by what we might call a min(d)field of questions concerning situations.
Without doubt, we can call Turkey´s current domestic political situation a sensitive one. This special issue is a key to unraveling an intricate fabric of discourse confirmed by what we might call a min(d)field of questions concerning situations that are ‘globally’ present and likewise contain lingering traces of the ‘localisable’ that determine and reflect complex power relations. This special issue on Turkey aims to provide a dynamic platform for the world to meet, learn, listen and debate in a multitude of ways, tracing affinities and differences in a compact, eventful journey towards the sphere of creative practice within its geopolitical discourse. Third Text (London) is an international scholarly journal dedicated to providing critical perspectives on art and visual culture. The journal examines the theoretical and historical ground by which the West legitimizes its position as the ultimate arbiter of what is significant within this field. Established in 1987, Third Text provides a forum for the discussion and (re)appraisal of the theory and practice of art, art history, and criticism, and the work of artists hitherto marginalized through racial, gender, religious, and cultural differences.
