inverted reality of the self- colonized space

This publication is a reflection of the so-called “New Europe” in which the prefix, “new” acts as a fashionable accessory and a red-herring of the post-colonial relations between the still-divided, yet suspiciously merging “Eastern” and “Western” Europe. (English)

This publication is a reflection of the so-called “New Europe” in which the prefix, “new” acts as a fashionable accessory and a red-herring of the post-colonial relations between the still-divided, yet suspiciously merging “Eastern” and “Western” Europe. In the so-called “New Europe” the “East” continuously struggles to establish itself as either the “same” or the “other.” In both cases, the relation to the “West” always defines the position of the “East” in which the “East” never seems to be as good as its geo-political neighbor. In the name of progress and prosperity, the “East European” countries, the Czech Republic specifically, model their behavior according to the dominant discourse of the “West” and thus employ self-colonizing gestures that preserve their status as a marginalized body. In this context, the images within the publication are constructed in such a way as to suggest self-modeling agency that, however, after closer examination proves to be just another form of self-colonization.
