Both exhibition titles reference the journal "Others: A Magazine of the New Verse", published in New York from 1915 to 1919, which introduched poems and prose by authors such as Djuna Barnes, T.S. Eliot, Mina Loy, Marianne Moore, Ezra Pound and Man Ray. "Others" was conceived as an experimental platform that programmatically asserted the social and artistic innovatice potential of the "other" - from free verse to early feminist and queer perspectives.
The issue of the status and function of the other formed the leitmotif that connected the two exhibitions.
This book, as document and as object, reflects the forms that the encounter with the other can assume.
