For the first time, Hannah Höch’s Bilderbuch [Picture Book] from 1945 is now being made available. The Picture Book is not only a wondferful book for children, but at the same time an important cultural object, as it is created by probably the most important female artist in Germany in the Modernist period. It is designed through the Dadaistic principle of photomontage which Höch developed, together with Raoul Hausmann, in the early years of the 20th century. This book presents the fantastic adventures of Rennquicke, Döfchen, Schnifti and Meyer 1, mythical creatures which seem like a dream in a zoological garden, surrounded by fairy tale flowers and plants.

With a text by Gunda Luyken. Design: Anja Lutz.Hannah Höch (1889¬1972) is probably the most important female artist in Germany in the Modernist period. Recently, her oeuvre finds also more international recognition. Her work centres around the dadaistic principle of photomontage which she developed, together with Raoul Hausmann, in the early years of the 20th century. Without subscribing to a canon of form as a fixed program, she opened up new and unnerving worlds of images through the manifold combination of contradictory sequences, formed of cutouts from magazines, brochures and photographs. Her criticism of the political situation and gender roles is subtly cloaked in hallucinatory plant representations and grotesque scenes of absurd hybrid beings.
